A Bar Stool Challenge...

Updated: Jan 5, 2018

I realize this may sound a bit misleading and yet its pretty straight forward. Taking two bar stools that a friend passed on to me and refurbishing them to make them the perfect addition to our kitchen. The challenge is I have never done this before!

We moved into our new apartment just under a year ago. Over the first few months we had workers still coming in and out fixing and finishing up different jobs that needed to be completed. One day my son asked, "When will everything for the apartment be done? Maybe after a year will everything be completed?" I explained that we will do our best to complete all the work over the first year we are in our new home but some things just take time. The bar stools & kitchen chairs are one of the items that remained lower down on the totem pole of priorities.

“...We will do our best to complete all the work over the first year we are in our new home but some things just take time." The bar stools are one of the items that remained lower down on the totem pole of priorities.

Until a friend shared on facebook that she was getting rid of her simple IKEA bar stools and I managed to grab at the opportunity to take two off her hands. This is how I decided this would be the perfect chance to take on a fun home improvement project I oddly always had the desire to attempt to take on and recreate these great stools to be the perfect addition to our kitchen space.

And so the research and planning began. I have found some helpful video tutorials as well as checklists and step by step directions with the help of a simple search on refurbishing wood furniture. I have included some of the videos and links below for those looking for guides to re-purposing and refurbishing similar items.

Choosing the color is another piece in the puzzle. Although it can be a fun piece in the process its important to choose the right quality and color palate that will go well with the rest of the kitchen. Thinking of going with a pistachio green or pastel turquoise or possibly a rustic teal. Will keep you updated what color I decide on.

Looking forward to sharing what I learn along the way and giving you some helpful tip to show you the ropes to how you can successfully complete the process too!
